Welcome to Putnoe

Putnoe is an electoral ward on the northern side of Bedford with a population of approx. 7,198K.It’s almost entirely residential with a great mix of small to large family homes and bungalows, ideal for generations of families to live close to each other.

There are no major industrial or business estates in the area and it has lots of green spaces to stretch your legs.

Most shops and services are clustered around a shopping parade called Library Walk as that is where the public library is housed.

Putnoe Primary School
Putnoe Primary School caters for pupils aged between 4 to 11 years. It is a non-selective school and draws its pupils from a wide range of social backgrounds, cultures and abilities.

Mark Rutherford Secondary School and Sixth Form
The staff are dedicated and committed to raising standards and developing each child to reach their potential. Support for students of all backgrounds is very strong and exam results are good, particularly in the Sixth Form. There is a strong emphasis on academic achievement, backed up by a real knowledge of each student’s individual needs.

Parks and public spaces in Putnoe
Putnoe's largest open space is Mowsbury Park and Putnoe Woods which are located on Wentworth Drive. Bedford Tigers rugby league club play their home matches here and Bedford Athletic Rugby Union Club has its ground here. The space is used by local schools and the club house is used by Putnoe community groups. Mowsbury Golf Course and Squash Complex is located directly to the north of the park and is operated by Bedford Borough Council. 

Mowsbury Park
Mowsbury Park has more outdoor sports pitches than any other park in Bedford. There are lots of great facilities including a bowls green, café, cricket pitches, football pitches, rugby pitches and play areas as well as the all-important toilets. The park is a local nature reserve and ancient woodland.

Putnoe Woods
Putnoe Woods is a deceptively large wood attached to the rear of Mowsbury Park and boasts the presence of Tawny Owls and Nuthatches. A rare patch of nature in an urban setting, it’s ideal for walkers, runners and a game of hide and seek!
